As part of TheAsianPawrent's giving back program, we recently visited OSCAS to donate some much-needed cleaning products from our brand partner, GermKillerⓇ. It was a fantastic day spent with the dedicated volunteers and adorable dogs at the shelter. We got a firsthand look at the hard work and love that goes into caring for these rescue dogs. The donations will help maintain a clean and safe environment for the dogs, ensuring they remain healthy and happy while waiting for their forever homes.

As passionate supporters of Oasis Second Chance Animal Shelter (OSCAS), TheAsianPawrent is dedicated to sharing the incredible work of this organization. Since 2006, OSCAS has been a lifeline for stray and abandoned dogs in Singapore. As a registered charity and non-profit organization, OSCAS rescues dogs from the streets and saves them from being culled. Today, about  70 dogs call this shelter their home, and their well-being is sustained by the generosity of volunteers, donors, and sponsors.

The Origin of OSCAS

Founded in 2006 by Mary and Anita, OSCAS began with a simple yet profound act of kindness. In 2004, Mary and Anita started feeding stray dogs in the forested area of Changi. When the authorities announced that Changi would be cleared for an air show space and the dogs would be culled, the two friends took action. With the support of SPCA and a rented kennel space from Ericsson Pet Farm, they trapped 60 strays, who became the first residents of OSCAS.

OSCAS Today

Today, OSCAS has relocated to Sungei Tengah, where Mary, Anita, and a team of dedicated volunteers continue to care for these animals as they await their forever homes. The mission of OSCAS is fueled by volunteers and donations, enabling them to conduct rescue operations, rehabilitate and rehome dogs, and promote responsible pet ownership. The shelter provides a safe environment with proper kennels, exercise areas, and medical treatment spaces. Thanks to generous donations, each kennel has personal fans and beds for the dogs.

Ensuring Top-Notch Care

TheAsianPawrent is committed to the dogs at OSCAS. Whether they are strays navigating crowded streets or dogs rescued from abuse, neglect, or surrendered, OSCAS serves as a sanctuary for all rescues.

Currently, OSCAS operates six units in Sungei Tengah, striving to offer optimal care while facilitating their adoption into loving families. However, maintaining the shelter involves significant operational expenses, including rent, utilities, staff salaries, transportation to clinics, and the procurement of food, supplements, and cleaning materials. Operational costs have risen from $420k in 2021 to $650k in 2023, with further increases anticipated in 2024.

TheAsianPawrent invites you to join in finding loving homes for these dogs. Each year, OSCAS helps countless dogs who have been forgotten, abandoned, or neglected. Many of the dogs at the shelter come directly from Singapore’s streets, and despite their different backgrounds, they all share a common desire for love and companionship.

To start the adoption process, please visit the Adoption Gallery to see the wonderful dogs waiting for their forever homes. OSCAS does NOT engage in meetings first or walk-ins, as rehoming volunteers need to schedule their time to travel in. For adoption inquiries, fill out the contact form on the OSCAS website, and an application form (the very first step in the adoption process) will be sent to you, or you can email directly at rehoming@oscas.sg.

Thank you for choosing to adopt and save lives! ❤️

This year, as a registered charity, OSCAS has an exciting 1-for-1 campaign under GiveAsia that is live now! Every donation to the OSCAS campaign will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Tote Board and the Government under the Enhanced Fund-Raising Programme. This means that for every $1 donated, OSCAS receives $2 to help their dogs. It's a fantastic opportunity to double the impact of donations to support their furry residents. Please show your generous support and share this campaign with your family and friends.

Together, we can make a difference. Lend a Hand, Save a Paw. Let's join hands and show our love and support for OSCAS and their precious dogs today! Visit this link to donate now!

What's even more amazing is OSCAS's sponsorship program. You can help take care of a furry friend by covering their food, medical care, and other essentials. Sponsors get the chance to visit their sponsored dogs regularly, creating special bonds and even helping with grooming and walks (if suitable) under the guidance of OSCAS volunteers.

OSCAS is managed almost entirely by volunteers, from rehabilitating, bathing, and walking the dogs, to updating their website and social media platforms. Volunteers form an integral part of the shelter, and we welcome you to join their family!

Please read about their volunteer roles, duties, and criteria before you register as a volunteer here. Kindly note that they communicate with first-time volunteers via email and go by a first-come-first-served basis for orientation sessions. They seek your patience and should be unable to accommodate your availability.
